Sligro Food Group Considers Sale of Retail Division

Dutch wholesaler Sligro Food Group has published its annual results for 2017 and announced the decision to potentially sell its supermarket banner Emté. The retailer said it will decide in 2018 whether it will sell Emté or start a partnership with another retailer.

Migros' Progress Driven by Online in 2017

Swiss grocery leader Migros reported a steady performance for 2017. Net sales across all its divisions increased by 1% to CHF28bn (EUR25.19bn). Whilst sales at its supermarkets edged down 0.8%, the retailer's performance was boosted by a 25% jump in e-commerce revenues.

Wholesale and E-Commerce Drive Sales Growth at Coop (CH)

Swiss number two grocery retailer Coop (CH) has announced its full year results, with an increase in net sales of 3%, to CHF29.2bn (EUR26.3bn). The winning departments across the business were the wholesale and production division, as well as its overall e-commerce operation.

Rewe Group to Shut Down Temma banner

German Rewe Group has decided to discontinue its organic food banner Temma, Lebensmittel Zeitung reports. In January, seven of the nine stores will be closed. Christiane Speck, who built up the format at Rewe Group, will take over the remaining two stores, located in Cologne.

Erwin Müller, CEO of drugstore operator Müller, has decided to rehire Carsten Weithe, the former purchasing officer responsible for buying the drugstore’s assortment, Lebensmittel Zeitung reports. It is also reported that Müller wants to change the strategy of the drugstore’s online shop.

dm Opens First Italian Store

Today, dm has opened its first Italian store following its market exit in 2005. It is located in the city of Milan. The German drugstore operator plans to open around 100 stores in northern and central Italy by 2020.

Migros Invests in Start-up for Refrigerated Lockers

Swiss Migros has invested in the German start-up company Emmasbox, which offers cooled boxes for click & collect of food ordered online, Lebensmittel Zeitung reports. The company offers refrigerated lockers as white label solutions to customers from retail and logistics.

Today, the Dutch retailer Jumbo has opened a second outlet under its new store format banner Jumbo City, at the train station in Eindhoven, in the south of the Netherlands. The 133 sq m store focuses on food-to-go and particularly promotes healthy food.

Coop (CH) Launches Italy-focused Store Format

The Swiss number two has opened a new store format this week which focuses on Italian products. It is located at the train station in Aarau, in the North of Switzerland. The 200-square-metre-store, called ‘Sapori d’Italia’, offers around 850 products from Italy, as well as fresh products.
