Lenta Focuses on Private Labels

Russian Lenta wants to strengthen its market position by expanding its food private labels. The retailer will focus on the standard and premium private label segments to increase customer loyalty. As a result, the company targets a revenue share of 18-20%, up from currently 12-14%.

Kesko Launches Health & Beauty Banner

Kesko has now unveiled plans for its new health & beauty joint venture with Finnish Oriola-KD. The first stores of the new chain called Hehku (meaning Glow) are to be launched in January next year.

Kesko Sells Furniture Business

Kesko is to sell its furniture subsidiary Indoor Group Oy, which operates the banners Asko and Sotka in Finland and Estonia. Kesko’s CEO explained that this follows the retailer’s strategy to focus on the Finnish grocery market, DIY and the car trade going forward.

Kesko Scraps Agriculture, Starts Drugstores

Finnish retailer Kesko strengthened its focus further on its core businesses in Q1 this year by selling its K-Maatalous agriculture business to Swedish competitor Lantmännen. Kesko also sold 45% of its Baltic machinery subsidiary Konekesko to Danish Agro, including the option for the latter to buy the remaining stock in addition to Konekesko’s Finnish operations.
